Our learning 27th Sept- 1st Oct
Year 3 – This week has been brilliant! We went on our school trip exploring our local area. We observed different types of houses and their features. We have then created our own map of the Calmore walk. In English this week, we have been reading and writing sentences using conjunctions and explaining why the giant deserves a job. In Maths, we have been learning about place value. We have been looking at three-digit numbers on 100 squares and using dienes and place value counters to help us.
Year 4 – This week in English we have been writing our own letters to Year 5 based on our book, ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. In maths we have been partitioning four-digit numbers.
Next week in English, we will be starting our new unit of work based on our new book. In maths we will be identifying and comparing numbers. We will also be starting our Design and Technology unit of work based on puppets.
Year 5 – This week in maths, we have been looking at numbers to a million and counting in 10, 100, 10,000, and 100,000s. In English, we have been planning, editing and publishing our work based on our discovery of an ancient Egyptian tomb. In History, we have explored tombs and how they were decorated and why people added their belongings to them. Next week in maths, we start our new addition and subtraction journey. In English, we are also starting a new journey towards writing a non-chronological report about the pyramids of Egypt.
Year 6 – On Wednesday, Year 6 enjoyed a visit from the Fire Service. We learnt all about how to prevent fires and what to do if we hear a fire alarm. This week in literacy, we have been writing our own versions of the fight scene between Theseus and the Minotaur. Next week, we will be learning about different points of view in stories. In maths, we have been learning to round numbers. Next week, we will be learning about negative numbers. In History, we have been creating posters about the Greek legacies.
