Our learning 2nd -6th November 2020
Year 3:This week in maths we have been recapping our learning from Autumn 1 to make sure we can remember it and to refresh our memories. Next week we will be starting our addition and subtraction learning journey. On Tuesday, we found peculiar metal objects in the woods on the playground. When we pieced them together, we discovered it was a robot! This linked us nicely into our book focus which for this term is ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. We have since written questions that we had about what we had found and looked at the front cover of the book.
Year 4:This week in year 4, we have been learning about emotions in our new P.H.S.E topic and discussing anger. We all made excellent suggestions on how to control our anger and calm ourselves down. In English, we have been looking at the story ‘Beowulf’ and comparing it to a Viking video called ‘The Saga of Biorn’, we have made predictions about the story. Next week we will begin planning to write our own Viking action stories. In Maths, we have been very busy looking at addition, adding using column method with place value counters. We will be now moving onto exchanging.
Year 5: This week in English we have started our new unit of work on our new book called ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. We have made predictions about what the book could be about and the main characters. In Maths we have been learning about statistics and how we can present information in different ways. We all had a fantastic time in the explorer dome for the launch of our new topic about space!
Next week in English we are learning about parenthesis. In maths we will be learning more about statistics, including line graphs and pictograms.
Please remember that our new PE days are Mondays and Tuesdays. Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit and school jumper.
Year 6: This week, Year 6 have begun learning about evolution through reading a story called ‘Moth.’ We have created our own moths and will be creating our own evolution storyboards based on the book next week. In maths, we have been developing our written methods of multiplication (Don’t forget to complete the MyMaths homework to help practise). We will be continuing this next week. Finally, in PSHE, we have been learning about how to take responsibility for our safety. Next week, we will be starting our new science topic – ‘An Evolving World.’ Look out for the home learning project information which has come home this week.
