Our learning 16th November -20th

Year 3:In English, our focus has been on descriptions of the weather. We have unpicked how Ted Hughes describes the weather in his book and recognised similes and personification. We have then had a go at writing our own similes and personification sentences about the weather, ready for next week when we will be writing a descriptive paragraph. In maths, we have continued our learning on number lines. We have finished looking at addition on a number line for the time being and have now started looking at subtraction. Next week we will be solving subtraction number sentences that require us to count back over the tens or hundreds boundaries.

Year 4:This week in year 4, we have been learning about Vikings, their ships, their armour and how they lived. In English, we have been looking at the story ‘Beowulf’. We have been learning about speech and how we use the correct speech punctuation. We have also been looking at up-levelling verbs for our story. In Maths, we have been very busy looking at subtraction using a number line and dienes to have us practically solve the questions.

Year 5: This week in English we have been rewriting part of the story of Cosmic, using all the features that we have learned. In Maths we have been investigating factors and multiples.

Next week in English we will be starting our new unit of work on persuasive writing. In Maths, we will be continuing our learning of multiplication and division.

Thank you for all of your support with the space projects, they look amazing!

Year 6: In literacy this week, we have been continuing to develop our understanding of the language which has been used by the author in our story to explain the evolution of moths. We have also learnt about the features of a non-chronological report in preparation for writing our own reports about moths next week. In maths, we have been understanding about remainders when we divide as well as becoming more confident with the methods of short and long division. Next week, we will be learning about factors and multiples. In science, we have learnt about how animals have adapted in order to survive in their environment. Next week we will be learning about the important work of Charles Darwin
