This week has certainly been about successful teams excelling. This afternoon, 23 pupils from across Year 5 and 6 finally got the chance to compete in the cross country event that had been postponed back in February. The course and challenge they faced was much different to back then as warm sunshine served spectators well but took its toll on the runners. But you'd not have known... Cross country is always an inspiring event to witness. For those out front it is impressive to see and we had Zach and Poppy both put in amazing performances coming in the top 12 for their races; Aria too finishing in the top 20. Amazing. But where we're truly left in awe is at those children that, knowing the 'race is already won', continue to drain every last ounce of effort and energy in pushing themselves to their limit...and beyond. We always talk about imagining our energy like a bottle of water - be careful not to pour it away too quickly or you'll have nothing left later. Every pupil managed that bottle perfectly and for their own race, squeezed the final drops out as they sprinted to the line. Now empty. Add to that the team spirit amongst the children, loudly cheering their mates on from behind the ropes whilst also quietly willing individuals to keep going. Some of the dances and songs were a little interesting...but they seemed to work!! Always so impressed by our pupils...but this week, they've been incredible!
